New BackTrack (Revision 2)

A couple years ago I purchased a Bushnell BackTrack GPS on sale. It looked like large stopwatch. I do enjoy hiking and just needed something to guide me back to the car or campground. I found it was great product to have. The only issue I really had was there was no back light and size could be little smaller.

Well it’s 2012 and Bushnell came up with a new version of the BackTrack (Revision 2). The first improvement I noticed was the smaller size and it seemed lighter. They also improved the LCD display, included a blue backlight and it was easier to carry.

The Test: I decided to mark my home then drive down to Columbia, SC. Not like I will ever hike 80 miles but wanted to see if it would point to the correct direction and see how accurate distance was. After an hour and 30 minute drive to SC I fire up the Backtrack it pointed the correct direction and distance indicator was pretty accurate. Next test how long it can keep a memory and charge test since this uses only 2 AAA batteries. After 5 days of not using it and left in a car glove compartment I power it up at different location it is pointing to correct direction, distance is pretty accurate and the batteries still have a full charge.

The improved backtrack is nice and light to have when you go on trip or any place with a large parking lot. The BackTrack has been a life saver for me and my family when we have come out of concerts and amusement parks looking for our car.

Bushnell BackTrack GPS D-Tour put to the Test!

Bushnell was kind enough to send me there BackTrack GPS D-tour this last week to review.

Pros:
16-20 hour battery life and no special batteries just uses 3 AA batteries.
Easy to use
Decent weather construction(Can handle splashes and dust)
Pretty accurate
Logs data
Tells you the temperature and altitude.
Software application works on Mac OS or Windows OS, very easy to use and accurate.

Cons:
Software application only relies on google maps. Not saying this is bad thing the maps are current, but what if your an area that does not have internet access.

Overall I was very impressed with the BackTrack D-Tour. Rating from 1 to 10, I give it 9.5
